ETHAN FREEMAN, "Jekyll & Hyde"- Star - HOMESTORY
LATIN-JAZZ CLUB
When the Musical ends late at night, Freeman often relaxes at his
favourite club "Médoc". "I like the atmosphere in this place, and the great food
and the latin - jazz". After that, it´s already that late that he has to sleep
long into the day. "I have to keep myself in stage shape", says the
singer and actor who plays not only one, but two characters in Bremen's
successful musical. "Each day I have to spend some time with gymnastics and
stretching, and lately I even bought myself some dumb bells. But I don't work
with
them very often", says Freeman with a smile, In real life he's neither the distinguished
Dr. Jekyll nor his wild alter ego Mr. Hyde.
The U.S. native grew up in a suburb of New York und lived his life as
a musical actor in Vienna, London and Toronto. But finally in Bremen he
could meet the singer who meant a lot to him in his youth, for the first time:
"Bruce
Springsteen gave a concert in Bremen last summer and I saw
him live
for the very first time and that was a great experience."
But when we asked for his favourite singers and plays he went on strike: "I
was never a fan of favourite this and favourite thats and I don´t want to make a choice
between Springsteen and Pavarotti." Ethan Freeman's musical preferences span
many genres and were fostered by his family: "In my childhood music was
something very special and important, but also the arts of acting run through my
veins: My
granduncle worked at the Opera in Russia and my mother was a
passionate amateur
actress and director. She gave me the voice talent - I drank it
with my mother's milk." He visits his family in the USA as often as possible,
but his real hometown is London, where he has his own house. "For me, London is
the centre of the European musical scene. But also privately I feel very comfortable
over there. I have all my furniture, momentos and all those
things. Here in Bremen I just moved in with the most necessary things, my clothes and
my CDs."
LIVING WITH ART
In Bremen is 3-room-flat is tastefully furnished with furniture from his
housekeeper: A couch and lots of plant in the living room and a comfortable
dining corner with a view of the garden. There's a lot to see on the walls, for exapmle
there is a small shelf with golden knick-knacks and keepsakes. And a lot of
pictures:
"I really like those golden paintings. My housekeeper is a painter
and gave me some of her artwork. She also painted the chair. This special
painting, for once kept in blue, is also done by her. My girlfriend gave it to me to
remember our last holidays."
SIGHTSEEING IN BREMEN
For his free time in Bremen, Freeman, who'll finish his job with "Jekyll &
Hyde" in September, still has a lot to do and see in Bremen: "Unfortunately I
haven't been
to the art gallery yet and I still also want to visit a Werder game."
He has already found time for a shopping spree though: "At Beverly Boyer I´ve found
some really
nice clothes lately so I could fill up my wardrobe there a little. But
I don't pay too much attention to clothes in general." There is onespecial
Bremen tip by Ethan Freeman: "My masseur Herbert Bannas is really
great, I will recommend him to everyone."
